Short Biography
Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr. Chung Pui Wah, Jacqueline received training in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Prince of Wales Hospital. She obtained her fellowship of the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in 2013. Thereafter, she developed a special interest in Reproductive Medicine and completed her subspecialty training in 2016.
She is currently appointed as Associate Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and as an Honorary Associate Consultant at the Prince of Wales Hospital. She is the Deputy Director of the Assisted Reproductive Technology Unit and the Deputy Director of the Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prince of Wales Hospital. Her research interests include fertility preservation, reproductive surgery, polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis. She has published more than 50 peer reviewed journals and few book chapters on these areas. Dr.Chung has obtained several internal and external competitive grants as principal investigator and co-investigator including the General Research Fund (GRF) in 2019, Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Direct Grant for Research in 2020, and the Hong Kong Obstetrical and Gyanecological Trust Fund (OGTF) in 2014, 2018 and 2019.
She was awarded the Distinguished Young Fellow from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2018 and the Inga Award for Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Best Teacher of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the academic year 2017/18. She was also awarded the Teachers of The Year Awards 2020 from the Faculty of Medicine for 2020. She now holds several positions in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is a Council Member of the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Honorary Secretary of the Reproductive Medicine Subspecialty Board of the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She is also the President of the Hong Kong Society for Reproductive Medicine. Moreover, she is the Local Representative of the Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (ASPIRE).
Advances in cancer therapy have led to a remarkable improvement in survival rates of young cancer patients, however the damaging effects of cancer treatment often negatively affects their future reproductive potential. Her mission is to help them to preserve their fertility before receiving such gonadotoxic treatment. She devotes most of her time now in developing a dedicated clinic for fertility preservation at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
