Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Conventional IVF
The egg and sperm are placed in a dish with culture medium in the laboratory to allow fertilization.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Indications
- Male factor infertility
- Previous failed fertilization at IVF
- Prolonged unexplained infertility
- Use of surgically retrieved sperm at IVF
A single sperm is selected by our embryologist, which will then be injected into the egg directly, using very fine micro-manipulation equipment under the microscope to achieve fertilitzation. Therefore ICSI bypasses the need for the sperm to naturally penetrate the egg to fertilise the egg.
